Karen L. Bizzini
Karen L. Bizzini is a partner in the Los Angeles office. She specializes in defending insurance companies in third-party environmental/toxic tort, construction defect and bad faith cases. She has also defended insurance carriers from first-party homeowner actions, primarily involving earthquake and mold claims. Ms. Bizzini has extensive trial, arbitration/mediation, and appellate experience in all of these areas. She has also tried cases involving bankruptcy, franchise and copyright issues. Her published decisions include: Continental Casualty Co. v. Diversified Industries, Inc. 884 F. Supp. 937 (E.D. Pa. 1995); Anaconda Minerals Co. v. Stoller Chemical Co. 990 F. 2d 1175 (10th Cir. 1993);Anaconda Minerals Co. v. Stoller Chemical Co. 773 F. Supp. 1498 (D. Utah 1991).
Ms. Bizzini also enjoys defending and counseling small and mid-sized businesses. In this context, she has litigated commercial and entertainment matters, and negotiated contracts.
Ms. Bizzini has published numerous articles on a range of insurance, reinsurance, and litigation topics. She co-authored a chapter, Analyzing Insurance Policies, for the New Appleman Insurance Law Practice Guide (2008).
Ms. Bizzini is admitted to practice in all California state and federal courts, as well as in the Northern District of Georgia, the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Ninth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeal. She has been admitted pro hac vice in Washington, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, and New York.
Ms. Bizzini received her J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1984, and her B.S., summa cum laude, from the University of Southern California in 1981. She practiced for seven years in the Los Angeles office of Buchalter, Nemer, Fields & Younger, and for six years in the Los Angeles office of Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal.
Ms. Bizzini served a three-year appointment to the State Bar of California’s Committee on Women in the Law, and was Vice-Chairperson of that Committee. She is a lifetime member of the Women Lawyers’ Association of Los Angeles, and served on its Board of Governors for five years. Ms. Bizzini has volunteered for the American Cancer Society’s “Just for Kids” program since 1985. Since 2007, she has served as Chairperson of the American Cancer Society’s Attorney’s Committee for the Los Angeles region. From 1999-2008, she has served on the Board of Directors for No Limits, a non-profit speech and language center and theater troupe for deaf and hard-of-hearing children.
